In 1956, a young Stefano Castellano left his hometown of Casamassima, Italy, to pursue a brighter future in America. Stefano arrived in Portland, Oregon, where he began his career in the furniture industry.
Starting with painting faux wood finishes at B.P. John Furniture Company, Stefano’s dedication and work ethic soon led him to Leonetti’s Furniture. Under the mentorship of Carl Pagnano, Stefano honed his skills and embraced the craft of furniture-making. (Stefano is pictured on the far right along with his family.)
It was at Washington High School’s night school that Stefano met Teresa Rebagliati (pictured on the far right), a fellow Italian immigrant from Genoa. They fell in love and in 1957 Stefano and Teresa married and began building their family and their future together. Stefano’s expertise continued to grow as he worked at Tempo Furniture, eventually becoming the upholstery manager, while Teresa contributed her sewing skills to the business.
In 1983, now with decades of experience and a passion for craftsmanship, Stefano and his son Joe founded Castellano Custom Furniture. Joined by his wife Teresa, and daughter Cathy, the family business flourished. They built a reputation for creating custom, high-quality furniture that reflected the unique styles and tastes of their clients.
Today, Castellano Custom Furniture is run by three generations of the Castellano family. Joe manages operations, Cathy oversees finances, and Joe’s son Robert brings modern technological innovations to the production process. Despite these advancements, the family’s commitment to traditional craftsmanship and quality remains steadfast.
